Michael Vangel is a writer, musician, and wannabe chef. A journalist by training, his nonfiction examines the politics and culture of modern American life; his fiction explores how similar societal forces interact with and influence people’s experiences of family, community, and loneliness. In 2018, he was a fiction writer in residence with Springboard for the Arts’ Hinge Arts Residency. Currently based in Minneapolis, he writes for Macalester College, reads for Coffee House Press, and freelances around the Cities. He’s at work on his first book-length fiction manuscript, a novel-in-stories that examines life in the lower Midwest, mental illness, and classic rock. He lives with his partner and their succulents.
